About SCLLN
From the beginning of the establishment of library literacy
programs by the California State Library in 1984, library
programs in Southern California have been meeting to share
resources and ideas, and address literacy issues. The Southern
California Library Literacy Network (SCLLN) was formalized
in 1985. The pioneering libraries which participated in the
first year of the California Literacy Campaign (CLC) were:
- Commerce Public Library
- County of Los Angeles Public Library
- Imperial County Free Library
- Kern County Library
- Los Angeles Public Library
- Monterey Park (Bruggemeyer Memorial) Library
- Pasadena Public Library
- Placentia Library District
- San Bernardino County Library
- San Diego County Library
- Santa Ana
Public Library
- Ventura County Library
Since 1985, both SCLLN and CLC have grown. CLC is now California
Library Literacy Services (CLLS) with over 100 participating
libraries around the state. SCLLN has 49 member libraries
and continues to expand our commitment to meet the literacy
needs of Southern California.
